Stallworth Gets 30 Days? What the Hell?

Okay, let me understand this.  Michael Vick is involved in a dog fighting enterprise in which dogs were subject to all sorts or torture and eventual death.  He was ordered to server 23 months in prison for his actions.  O.J Simpson "allegedly" murdered his wife and Mr. Goldman and thanks to great lawyers was found not guilty and served no time for his actions (although now he will for his little kidnapping episode in Vegas). Finally Dante Stallworth was driving drunk and hit and killed a man and he is going to serve 30 days.  WAIT! 30 DAYS? Are you kidding me.

What the hell is wrong with the system?  I am by no means taking score, but how is it you can justify 23 months for cruelty to animals but only 30 days for manslaughter?  Stallworth killed a man with his car and he was drunk.  I mean if he were pulled over for for driving under the influence and blowing a .126 which is well over the limit he could have received a similar sentence.  NOW tack on the death he caused... 30 days... please.

It is bad enough that athletes in the spotlight are sometimes held to a different set of standards and when they screw up their mistake is magnified.  IT creates controversy when those same athletes throw money at the problem to get out of the trouble they are in instead of accepting the mistake and being accountable for their actions.  Charles Barkley is right... Athletes are not role models.  We are fans, we cheer for them, we buy tickets to see them, we buy every product they endorse and some of them screw up and use OUR money to get themselves out of trouble.

My son is a student athlete.  I try to teach him to make good choices and be responsible and more importantly accountable for his choices.  I hope I have done enough so far to get him to see that.  I hate to think that he might look up to athletes because of their performance on the playing field and ignore some of the things they do off it.

OK I WILL NOW STEP OFF THE SOAPBOX :D

Apple Learning and xCode Development has begun

Well it is time to take off the suit and glasses and relax with Apple.  We have received some initial feedback on developing applications for the iPhone/ iTouch devices.  With that we have put together some great ideas on apps we can develop both for the classroom and for business and technology support side solutions.  As we develop these apps we would love your input if you would like to be a part of our testing please shoot me an email and let me know the following:

Your Name - kinda important
Your email - which I would have anyway :D
Let me know if you have an iphone or iTouch - this will help with specific applications
Let me know what area of interest you have with these apps.  Some if not all would be involved in K-12 or Higher education (thanks to my wife), but there are a few of you "geeks" out there that might be interested in some of the technical support apps.

iPhone / iTouch Apps growing too fast for me.

Kim and I have been looking at new ideas for web based applications.  Specifically with K-12 education and professional development stradegies.  With the continued growth in popularity of the iPhone and iTouch, I have started looking at xCode so we can start building apps designed around the latest craze.

At the present we have started developing an app similar to that of the "clicker" devices teachers have found very useful in the classroom.  Since I have been a PC/ Windows guy for the longest time, it is difficult to step over the tracks into the world of MAC.  That being said I am "somewhat impressed" with what we have found so far.  xCode looks pretty easy to use out of the box and the simulator i really like since the only real device I have belongs to my wonderful wife and taking it from her would be like someone trying to take the Coke can out of my hand... GRRRRRRR.

Now here is the question I pose to you.  We are looking for some new ideas for applications we can build for the iPhones.  If you have any ideas on K-12 applications or lessons you would like to see adapted for the iPhone or simply have a system that you would like to see become more mobile instead of tied to your computer, drop me an email at mcaise24@msn.com.   In the meantime, we will keep you posted on the development of our clicker project and any of the other projects we decide to take on.

Four More Years...

Well this will be short, since there is not much to say.  Graduation night for Brandon went as expected.  A great ceremony and a few tears (YES MOSTLY FROM ME), but all in all a good night.  He was not in a talkative mood which I took as nerves.  I said this would be a short note so the last words of this entry I leave for Brandon...

"Dad,
Thanks for everything you did for me on and off the court.  You are very supportive and dorky at the same time.  U Rock Bro!"

Don't know how I made it through the night

All week Brandon, talked about the Sports Banquet.  "You are going right?", " Are you taking me, Dad?" seemed to be the common questions coming from the boy.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME-  Of course I am going.  He worked too hard not to be recognized for his accomplishments... and I worked equally as hard dealing with him :D

All kidding aside, I have no idea how I kept it together throughout the night.  Brandon's body of work through the year was remarkable to say the least - especially when you consider where he started and what it took to get to this point in his early "career".   Of course, as a father, you hope for and guide your kids to be successful, and IT IS TRUE - you do relive moments of your past through the events of your children.  I hope that to this point some good came from it.

During the Sports Banquet last night, I looked at a young man who was described by his coaches as someone who is very confident of his abilities - "if you were sure, just ask him", but also as someone who was a leader.  That was evident every time his coaches spoke of him and with every award he earned.  He earned All District honors in both Basketball and Soccer as voted by the coaches of the AIAL.  His coaches voted Brandon MVP of the Basketball team and Track team and he received the coaches award for his performance on the soccer field.  As it is for many special nights, the best was saved for last as the athletes voted Brandon 2008-09 Athlete of the Year.

Brandon and I thought back to last year when he started to set his goals.  "I can cross a few off the list." he said after the night was over.  It was nice to know that a couple of things stick.

For those who know me best, know that if it is not SI, a golf catalog or technical manual, I usually don't read it. I guess a recent birthday has had me do some self-realization.
